Boardwalk Maintenance
Description of Friends' maintenance activities for the boardwalk and the park
In a lush forest like the West Hylebos Wetlands, keeping a trail open amid the fast-growing vegetation is an ongoing effort.
Friends of the Hylebos volunteers make regular visits to the boardwalk, packing a pair of clippers, ready to prune back the salmonberry and other plants that grow so lushly during spring through fall seasons. At other times, the Friends will organize larger work parties to deal with trash or specific invasive weed infestations. Our goal is to help the city of Federal Way keep our beautiful wetlands accessible to the public.
Being a boardwalk volunteer takes minimal training and can be done as part of your normal visit to the park. The benefits are super-natural!
