Salmon Watcher Program
Description of Stream Team Salmon Survey volunteer opportunities
Hylebos Salmon Watch volunteers are active in the fall, between September and December, recording observations of returning adult salmon on Hylebos Creek. The Friends follows the King County Salmon Watch protocol, assigning volunteers to a specific location and asking them to spend a minimum of 15 minutes each week looking for salmon.
Volunteers record numbers and species seen. The Friends uses the compiled information to assess the timing, presence and relative size of returning runs.
Salmon watchers also provide an important creek monitoring function and provide an early alert for problems, as well as interesting species observations such as river otters.
