Who Does What

Organization structure, function and who does what

The Friends is a non-profit corporation, organized under the laws of the State of Washington. It serves the public good through its mission to "protect and restore the West Hylebos Wetlands and the greater Hylebos Creek Watershed" and is a 501(C)3 tax-exempt organization.

The corporation is governed by a volunteer board of directors that is responsible for establishing organization policy, setting and reviewing an annual budget, supervising the Executive Director and securing funding.

The Executive Director is hired and supervised by the board of directors to implement board policy and manage all aspects of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for developing and implementing programs consistent with board policy, hiring and supervising staff, serving as organization spokesman, fundraising, and direct involvement in specific programs such as the SR 167 Project, elements of the Hylebos Creek Conservation Initiative, and others.

The Development and Outreach Director is the lead staff person responsible for leading fund development efforts, implementing the membership and fundraising program, including fundraising events, and creating print and web outreach materials.

The Restoration Coordinator is the lead staff person for all restoration projects and designs and implements restoration projects, coordinates crews and volunteers, recruits and trains volunteers in restoration techniques and water quality monitoring, and the salmon watch program, and conducts the Friends' monitoring programs.

The Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to the organization and operates the membership retention and organization database.

"The Friends of the Hylebos has given me the opportunity to help change my small part of the world for the better. " Teri Lenfest
